Triumph Trident anyone? Empty
PostSubject: Triumph Trident anyone?   Triumph Trident anyone? EmptyMon May 11, 2015 3:00 am

I have been offered a 1991 Trident 900 for the princely sum of £500. It's been off the road for 2 years, all the panels have been stripped ready for painting, engine overhauled and put back in, new exhaust and standard silencer.

Sooo, do I buy it and if so do I cafe it or just put it back on the road?

Thoughts/suggestions please.

Hi Russ, good to see some movement on here again, I can only hope it's because people are now starting Winter projects rather than a loss of interest in cafes.

As for the Trident, I walked away, he eventually got it started in a belch of blue smoke, it ran like a sick dog and continued to fill the lock-up with blue exhaust and sounded like it was falling apart.

I bought a 1996 CBR 1000f for £750 instead which I have enjoyed over the Summer, but put to bed a couple of weeks ago with a view to a nut-and-bolt resto over the Winter. Not cafe culture I know, but she's in far too good a nick to start tinkering with!

A bit off topic but I have a 1990 cbr1000f and it's a great bike, if your taking the engine out or doing the valve clearances I hope you have lots of patience and a good back. Tip if your removing the engine- it's all in the angle and a ratchet strap to hold it in a sort of swing makes life easier

Luckily the engine is sound and apart from a slight cam-chain rattle on start-up from cold there's nothing untoward at present so no need for removing the engine! This is my second 'thou and I love them, so the plan is to get the fairings and panels off, give it a good service and general spruce up over Winter and hopefully she'll be good for another few years yet!
