1981 KZ550 LTD Project Empty
PostSubject: 1981 KZ550 LTD Project   1981 KZ550 LTD Project EmptyFri Jan 21, 2011 4:37 pm

I bought this bike for $500 dollars just to have something cheap to ride with my 14 year old after we built him a little bobber to ride. I later purchased a 77 CB750 and thought about a cafe style bike build but built a bobber for myself instead. I decided to cafe this 81 to give myself two different styles of bikes to ride.

The Build begins by striping everything off the bike

Thats the Bobber in the background.

A first look at what it will look like with the tank and bubble screen in place

Back wheel powder coated (I did it myself) and in place.

Removed the front pegs and am actually using the rear passenger pegs so I had to relocate the shifter and rear brake lever.

Strapped on a small tank with the seat and rode it to make sure the controls I fabricated were gonna function properly.

Back down to the frame to begin making it pretty!

Engine painted and ready to go back in.

About halfway can't wait till its finished!

Final Paint is all thats left.

That does look good. You solved some of the same problems I had in the same way, ie brake and shifter. I cut about 6.5 inches out of the back of the frame on mine and will be going naked on it. I will post up when I have some more progress to it. Good on ya though, it looks great.

I do like the end result, especially with it not being black or silver as seems to be the norm.
