| Hi everyone, This is my first project… I got this Honda CB400N superdream 1978 off ebay for a small sum of £387.. I thought this would be a good first time café project and so far it going well…. [img] [/img] Started the strip down.. [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img] I was so glad that the engine hangs from the frame so much easier for me to get it out on my own.. [img] [/img] by this time its getting cold out, so the engine ends up in the livingroom. The frame and bits and bobs head off for sandblasting... [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img][img] [/img] Its to cold outside to paint so I have turn my spare room into a paint booth... I have done all the paint myself. [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img] The engine was moved into the livingroom, it was a cow to clean the 30+yr plus of crud. I swear I didnt have much skin left on my finger after cleaning it...[img] [/img] and after [img] [/img] The seat and hump I am well proud off it turn out well... [img] [/img] Got this old seat of ebay for £50..... I stripped everything off the seat pan... [img] [/img] I chopped up the seat and made the hump and fiber glassed them together.... [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img] I gave my seat to a local guy I know to do the upholstery. [img] [/img] [img] [/img][img] [/img]

| Nice build! I'm just starting with mine and i kinda wish i had started with 400, the 750 is heavier than it looks and my back is not thanking me! How long has it taken thus far? And any pics with it all laid on the frame?
Best,
S

| Im getting there.... I reckon I will be finished by the end of Feb, well maybe.... Here some more pics. [img] [/img] [img] [/img] [img] [/img] Iv not got much more to do part from figuring out the wiring, put the chain on and sort out the exhaust then the tuning to be done... I was looking at some of the other projects on here and thinking maybe I should move the wiring under the seat but then I will have to mess about with the seat.. so i might just stick to my original idea and keep everything behind the side panels... | |

| looking sweet. i used to know a bloke who built a chopper in his livingroom. unfortunately it wouldnt go out the door and he ended up removing part of a wall rather than disassemble it. | |

Pud, the clue's in the name "Harriett". H, that bike is a peach and a real credit to you, all in super quick time too. Now, what's the next project? (and don't say a trike 'cos you certainly won't get that out of the patio doors!)

| i 'spose the joy of doing it inside is the warmth. i'm personally struggling to get owt done in the garage at the mo.
i'e got as far as rebuilding carbs on the kitchen table but anymore than that tends to get very stern looks.
roll on the summer. | |

| It a Honda cb550 K or F 1979 chop... but having really headache with the wiring... As the last person who own it chopped all the wiring out and put back just the bog standard of head lamp brake light and ignition with bits of wire taped together... cant get anything working......
I am happy with my bike but paint work not perfect but not bad for halfords spray paint, but I think I may invest in a spray gun for the next one..... I'm just being picky....

Si Hi Si, glassing is easy but the only thing is you have to be lighting fast before it sets. You can get all the stuff you need from Halfords.... You can build your mould from plywood then fill the gaps with expanding foam then sand it down. Then once you have the shape you want.... cover with cling film, then sort out the glass fibre sheets, you can just use the sheet whole but I find it an arse to work with, so I cut it into strips easier to work into corner.. And with strips you can criss cross and make it stronger.. I would do about 4 to 6 layers. After it hard which won’t take long at all. Use some body filler to finish and smooth out and sand with 800, 1200 2000 grit, and then use filler primer sand with 2000. Then paint....

| Thanks for that Harriett, you make it sound easy enough. Looking forward to giving it a try! I'm sure I will get messy...
Cheers, Si | |
