| I think you're wrong Miffa, all the images of the Flying Flea I can find show them as a rigid rear, no shocks, but then again the Flea was the only 2-stroker Enfield produced and that was based on the DKW, so possibly some sort of post-was attempt a 'cilvilianising' them, but then the crankcase is wrong, it's oval and all the Fleas were circular.
The mudguard, exhaust and side case looks more like a post-war BSA Bantam, but the chain drive is the wrong side, what makes you think it is an Enfield, is that the RE emblem on the n/s casing? Is it possibly some form of Indian knock-off, a Fury or an Explorer?
I thought it might be a 60's DKW, but they actually have DKW stamped on the crankcase.
I think it certainly from the late 50's at the earliest, possibly even the 1960s, but that's as far as I've got.
So Miffa, you've got me stumped!
BTW, did you pick up the other, bigger Enfield?

| Yep, you're right, although looking at the brochure for the MKII that again has the older style hub-mounted shocks at the rear, they did do a MKIII, but I can't find any defining images. Sold in October '11 on E-bay, described as a 1959 Royal Enfield Ensign | |

| the little enfield turned out to be stolen not by me i might add mixed emoctions gutted ive proberly lost what i paid for it but made up for the rightfull owner who will be getting his or her bike back i brought the bike in good faith and a very feasable reason it was up for sale i collected it from a address and paid in cash
i have given the name and address of the little s**t to the police and my.... sons... so lets hope this bike rustler is dealt with in the appropiate manner i do have a few ideas myself of what should happen to this thief but those are best kept to myself and im sure the fabulous criminal system in this great country of ours will prevale LOL
the moral of the story
ive been buying projects and part projects for years and in some cases bikes that have been left abandoned for donkeys years which 9 times out of ten dont come with a V5 but as they say theres no fool like a old fool and if its a price thats to true to believe then take it from me dont believe it because the story wont be true
i advertized the bike innocently with my name and phone number on ebay the guy whos bike it belongs to spotted it and contacted the police who then inturn phoned me the last and the worst thing left to do is to explain to mrs miffa that the neibours saw the police at the house taking the bike away, im frightened of no man but when it comes to the mrs miffa thats a different story so if anybody wants a guest for xmas please let me know

| Gutted for you Miffa. I had exactly the same issue with my CB750, bought it off Fleabay, the guy who sold it to me did so in good faith (I've spoken with him since and he gave me chapter and verse on how he came by it) I applied for the V5 and 3 months later the plod appeared at my door, the bike had been stolen out of a storage shed in North London back in 1982, then for some reason taken apart and moved from place to place finally winding up on a shooting estate in the wilds of Perthshire.
Mine had a happy ending though, the police put me in touch with the original owner, I e-mailed him photos of how the bike looked when I got it i.e. boxes of bits, and he agreed to pass title for 200 quid.
You might want to check if the owner of yours ever got paid out by the insurance company (mine didn't, his insurance expired whilst the bike was in storage) if so the insurers have legal title not the previous owner, and you might be able to strike a deal with them.

| Commiserations, I know the heartbreak. Late 80,s, everything I had earned over a year and a half for an AR125, disappeared in the back of a police van. They mulled over doing me for receiving stolen goods!, why do scumbags seem so plausible. | |
