Newbie from North Tyneside Empty
PostSubject: Newbie from North Tyneside   Newbie from North Tyneside EmptyThu Oct 09, 2014 5:52 am

Hey All,

I have wanted to do a project bike over winter for some time and now I have the space and a reasonable amount of time I'm just gonna crack on and get it sorted!

I am totally new to this and have never done a bike in the past so it's gonna be a steep learning curve for sure!

My idea is to make a 50cc 2 stroke cafe racer style ready for the summer.

Would be great to get some tips and ideas where to start in terms of frame, engines etc

Thanks for taking the time to read this and apologies for my lack of knowledge but everybody has to start somewhere!

Cheers

Hi Kris - and welcome
Most people start with an existing bike and then modify it to get a 'cafe racer' by stripping off the bits that aren't needed (hence saving weight') and then doing work on the engine (hence increasing power) Less weight + more power = more fun !!
Are you wanting to start by mixing and matching frames and engines ? Not for the novice !! and starting with a 50cc ? that will really limit you. Think you need a re-think on what you want, and how you will achieve it. I'm not being negative but would encourage you to really think it through - read some of the project threads on here- there is plenty of good advice and tips.
Regards

Mike

Thanks for the advice mate!

Yeah I'm gonna spend the weekend doing a lot of research into it and getting my plan together from there. Got plenty of time and space this year and looking forward to it.

Cheers

Kris

yeh welcome kristof cyclops like mikey says, if you can start with a whole bike rather than mixing and matching engines and frames for your first got, that'll far easier and cheaper and quicker in the long run.
why the 50cc (age/licence limits?)

if you can find a bike with wire wheels and a steel frame (which will be easier to modify if you want to single seat the rear end) that's a good starting point. But hey the sky's the limit , just get something and create something cool Cool bounce

keep us posted on what ya get and start a thread off in the projects section Smile

Thanks for the reply mate, I've been looking at a cg125 as a starter.

I only have my CBT at the moment so that's why I thought a little 50cc stroker would be good fun but after looking around I think the cg will defo be a good starting point.

I'll keep you all posted hopefully gonna get things moving when I'm back from work

Welcome Kris, I echo the sentiments fo staring with a complete bike. The CG is a great piece of kit, simple to work on and spares are plentiful, if you want some ideas/inspiration take a look at Mike's project and also have a gander here [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Enjoy your project and post piccies!
