| Picked up a '78 KZ650 with 23K on the dial a few weeks ago and I'm going to give it a mild Cafe Treatment. Parts are on order and some of them have come in, they look like this: Norton Manx Tank (4 gals) Café Bug Eye Seat Clubman Bars New Header 4 n2 1 1/4 fairing I think I'll start out going "Rat Café" on it to make sure it all fits together and runs out nice then tear it down and fine tune the suspension and geometry, then paint. I'm really leaning toward being very loyal to the original café' movement ( I know, I know, it's not a Brit bike ) in as far as eliminating almost everything not necessary to the bikes function. Side cases are out, rear fender out, battery relocated to beneath seat cover, so the side cases are fully empty. Bob the front fender a bit. Run it for a month and then re-evaluate and rebuild. By Rat-ing it I mean to not adress cosmetics too strongly until the bike is dialed in and handiling properly. Then I'll tear it all down smooth the frame, and paint the body parts. Probably go black on frame and engine and orange on body work. Here is what it looks like now: and when I got it: If any of you guys have tonned a KZ650 and have any insight please chime in, I sure could use some ideas. Regards, VonZipper | |
