PostSubject: My first Zed Build... Need a seat...   My first Zed Build... Need a seat... EmptyThu Mar 15, 2012 8:33 am

I'm about to go back in time and buy a 1978 z1000 Ltd, originally a KZ imported from the US. (I had a z650 and Z1R back in the 1990s)

I'm going to start with the basics... clip-ons, new clocks, smaller headlight, new indies, new seat and I want to shorten the tail (but still use some of it). I like the cafe style seats, but also brat-style seats and flattrack seats.

Can any of you tell me where to look for off the shelf seats that might fit?

Thanks

Dutch

brat style, use your own pan and have it recovered

Thanks mate... although you may be right - Proper Brat-style is just the pan and foam...

Here's the donor bike....

Dutch, each to their own mate, but that Z is beautiful, it seems a bitch to turn that into a tracker. I think most of us on here start with an old nail that needs work anyway then go from there, but your Z looks immaculate, are you sure you want to do that?

I'm with Miffa for the seat though, E-bay cafe racer seat http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=cafe+racer+seat&_sacat=See-All-Categories there's hundreds to choose from.

Good luck with the build whichever way you go.

Hmmm... This zed's 'ok', but it's a US imported Ltd painted to look like a z900, and its far from immaculate close-up. - so it's not like it has any amazing heritage - and if you look online there seem to be enough perfect restos out there to keep the zed aficionados in clean bikes till 2050... I feel ok about cafe'ing this one. - and thanks for the link.
