 An old Yamaha question Empty
PostSubject: An old Yamaha question    An old Yamaha question EmptyTue Dec 03, 2013 8:38 am

I have a friend that said he has a 1972? Yamaha 360E. He claims the “E” is for experimental and only 100 where imported to the USA. I have a couple of questions 1) is there such a thing and 2) what would it be worth? It looks in good condition as if it was always garage kept but I do not know when the last time it ran was. It’s been in the same spot in the garage for at least 3 years. I’m thinking of trying to get it but I think my friend has an unrealistic price in mind because of the “E”.

Hi and welcome.

The only 360 Yamaha list is a DT360 which is a trials (dirt) style bike and the 'E' probably refers to electronic ignition. If it's not a dirt bike try and get some pictures and post them on here and see if anyone can shed some light.

Incidentally if it's any help with your cause no major manufacturer puts an 'experimental' bike on the road, they need to go through so many stringent type approval tests it wouldn't be worth their while just for a production run of a couple of hundred bikes. If it was a small builder then maybe, but Yamaha are one of the biggest in the world and the set-up costs would be prohibitively expensive.
