whats it worth?

so heres the thing.

i'm always doing work for the chap next door to the workshop.

he gets me to build stuff he has all intention of using, then sells them without turning the key.

currently building a triumph for him so he's still keen on this one.

thing is, he has an early 60's bsa a65 that i done years ago that has yet to be moved.

he also has a 750cc race tuned engine for it with amal flat carbs(does that sound right?) on it which has never been fitted.

i'm now showing interest in this one but have no idea what its worth.

please indulge me with your extensive knowledge on such matters.

this will be intresting to see peoples thoughts on its value

you say you did this years ago so its a complete bike ?
which model of a65 is it?
based on what i would sell for not buying in price
the bike without the spare engine 2400-2800 restored 3k-3600
750 race engine depending on the internals 1500-?
be nice to buy it in at 2k for the lot

if theres any surplus race parts on offer give me first refusal as the a50 ive got is the same bike as the a65 but with a 500cc engine
also after a a50-a65 bare frame if you here of one

gonna get round and take some pics next week if i can.

dont know what he will or wont sell at the mo but you never can tell with him from one day to the next.

To be fair Shaun a lot depends on the condition.

If you did the paintwork a few years ago and the bike hasn't moved since it will need recomissioning, possibly a lot of the brightwork will need rechroming, battery, tyres etc.

Having said that around 2 - 2 1/2k wouldn't be an unfair price if it needs that level of work. The racing engine, again, does it run, has it been rebuilt, what state of tune? The flat-slide Amals are interesting if somewhat archaic, but nice, simple carbs to work with.

I'm with Miffa, if you can get it for anything under 3 grand for the lot and you are quids in!

i am with the others except i would try the guilt trip and say u know all that work i do for you well i will give u 2k and start from there
