Well, finally done it. After 12 months 'dabbling; at being self-employed and not getting too far with it I finally started a new job on 1st May and to celebrate went out and blew a whole 350 quid on my next project.

For anyone who can't tell it's a 1980 CB750K with just 18k on the clock. It comes with a V5,2 keys and shed loads of bits, collect it this weekand and know where I'm going to be for the next few Saturdays (and Sundays, and evenings!) as I try and get it on the road for Summer! cheers

I'm told it was running before the present owner took the carbs off to clean them and never got round to refitting them. Having said that it's a Honda four so even if there are problems it's a pretty straightforward fix, no variable valves or high-end electrics to worry about and spares are pretty easy to come by as well as not overly expensive.

Only things I might look to is getting a different tank and a set of spoked wheels to replace the Comstars to make it more retro, but first job is get it home and stripped and see where I go from there, can't wait!  bounce

OH dear, might have a problem! I contacted the seller to arrange collection on Monday (first time i can get my hands on a van) and happened to enquire about the V5. He has never had a V5, he was 'told' it's a Canadian import but the numbers all match.

I had this issue once before, bought a bike without documents, applied for the V5 only to have two police officers turn up on my doorstep as the bike had been stolen from London 25 years previously! On that occasion I managed to come to an arrangement with the original owner (he'd been paid by his insurance company so wasn't too bothered) but I really don't fancy going down that route again!

Time will tell I suppose  Rolling Eyes

Lengthy update.... so much for matching numbers (sellers assurance "Aye pal, they're there somewhere, I seen 'em ma'sel")!

I have gone over every inch of the frame, sanding back any areas I though 'might' have the numbers (head stock, front and rear down-tubes, top member and braces) no sign of a stamped frame number, but interestingly no sign of anywhere the original plate might have been removed either Shocked

Only conclusion is it's either a replacement frame or someone has been very, very fly!

So, after hours of searching on the net I tried a new tack, I submitted the engine number and what would be the associated frame number (it's the same as the engine but without an R in the sequence) to one of the pro HPI sites, result? Nothing recorded, not even a registration number.

Next stage I submitted the frame and engine numbers to Honda Heritage and today I received a letter of authenticity telling me my Honda was manufactured for the UK market on 12th June 1982 and as such I can now apply for an age-related plate from the DVLA. In addition I have submitted the serial number to an on-line company who are making me an authentic Honda frame sticker.

As there is nothing showing up on the HPI database I am now comfortable the bike is legit and I can finally start the project without getting my collar felt! cheers

Yep!...............Summer 2015 that is! Embarassed

So far I have cut the rear sub-frame to shorten the seat base, welded the petrol flap closed and extended the filler pipe to take a Monza-style flip-up petrol cap, removed the Honda badges and filled the sides where the fittings go and am in the throes of wrapping the exhaust, but seriously underestimated the amount of exhaust bandage I'd need for 4 pipes and the collector!

Still thinking spoked wheels and a single seat, it alreadu has clip ons and I have a nice chrome headlight to replace that god-awful thing hanging off the front at present, rearsets I suppose as I am 6' 1" and almost 17 st so I'd struggle with the pegs in their present location! Very Happy
