not done a lot of work on my gs550 project lately as the frame is still at my mates having the welding done & we have been too busy to go & see him
, we have just brought out a range of cafe seats
& just made a seat for this bike, modded the frame to suit & done a full paint job
(paint not my choice for the colour scheme but its what the customer wanted & he is happy with it)
this is how it came in

then we made a plug for the seat, then a mould & then a seat unit for it

the frame was cut back to the brace that holds the inner mudguard (which we kept in)
& the open ends of the tubes had covers welded on them. The number plate & light brackets were bolted to the mudguard mount.
A brace across the frame was welded in place & 2 mounts just in front of the tan, these had anchor bolts fitted so the seat could be bolted to the bike

the cut out was made for the rear light & the paint work began
the tank side panels & seat were all repaired flatted & given a few coats of 2 pack high build primer,
flatted back again & the first base coat colour applied redcb750 kz cafe racer - work on a customers bike Sany4910

cheers mate these seats are now for sale Very Happy
ill post a few more updates on this bike

i laid the red base coat down & then masked all the red bits up with 3m fine line tape & used paint masked cut on a sign cutting plotter for the circles & numbers

cb750 kz cafe racer - work on a customers bike Img_0414
then laid down the next colour metallic pearl blue base coat

the blue areas were masked leaving the red still masked & the final colour was laid down - brilliant white base coat

masking was all carefully removed & & as the painting & masking had take 2 days the whole lot was wet flatted with 1500 wet & dry then 2000 (helps to make the lacquer bond to the base coat
then 5 coats of 2 pack clear lacquer were applied, we use a scratch, chip & uv resistant clear,
giving this finish straight from the gun

all we had left to do was assemble, wire the rear light & give it a wax-
its difficult to flat & polish the lacquer we use as it is scratch proof making it very tough so i would rather get a good finish from the gun then was a couple of days later
job all done customer collected on saturday morning & was very happy

tomorrow (monday) we start on this
cb750 kz cafe racer - work on a customers bike In_the10
its a 1987 honda xbr500 that some one has tried to cafe but given up,tank has been lost just to add to the fun!!!
I have been given a budget for the job to be completed in but as long as it is within this price i can do what i want paint included
we estimate 2 months from start to finish ( we still have the carbon & fiberglass parts to make that we sell) so it will be around an hour or max 2 per day so we have to plan our time well
i will start another post on this build next week
