PostSubject: Issues   Thu Jan 19, 2012 10:11 am

Hi all, still not got back to doing the stand yet because I discovered other issues with the bike and I wondered if anyone had any ideas: -

1st was some tiny bubbles I could see around the head gasket when the bike is running, they seem to go away once it is warmer and I guess things have expanded.

2nd Performance is not great, it really struggles quite a bit to get to 70 yet it sounds fine and revs freely, up to 50 / 60 it seems happy.

3rd I seem to get a fair delay in the throttle response and sometimes a dip before the power kicks in when putting a fair amount of throttle on.

I checked that it was firing on all cylinders and everything seems ok in that respect at least.

I've had a twin for the last few years and before that a V4 so not really much experience at all with the older straight 4s. Thanks alot in advance for any advice on what to do or check for.

Carbs or timing. Honda have a timing advancer which can gum up and cause poor performance. Worth checking.

Thanks mig,Hopefully I can try and look at the timing advancer and see if it looks gummed up or not. Apparently the bike had new plugs and an oil filter just before I bought it, but maybe I should double check the plugs too could they cause this kind of issue or do they just work / not work?

Impressed Ian, you've done more in two weeks than I have in 14 months!
