PostSubject: Newbie... plus new website, plus battery advice needed...   Tue Nov 22, 2011 7:37 am

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hi. I'm currently stripping back and rebuilding a Ducati Sport Classic 1000 into an even more basic, retro cafe racer, so hope to visit this forum regularly for help and advice.

I'm also running a website that combines several blogs from Tim & Kev at Sprirt of the Seventies in Kent, Adam & Rex at Untitled Motorcycles, Motorcycle Deluxe, Full Tilt, and writing about a mix of professional custom cafe builds and proper home build from guys like you - and me.

The website as only been around for a month, but now had at least three updates a week, sometimes, more, and I hope will provide the eye-candy of Bike EXIF and Pipeburn with more detail on the builds, and extra stories on people and events (e.g. Rollerburn) and plenty of personally and opinion.

There will also be an events diary launching soon, and maybe other features too.

It's not a commercial site, just driven by passion and pride, and the other contributors are all riders and/or builders of cafe racers, scramblers, street bikes, etc.

I'd love to feature some of the bikes that you guys are building on the site, but before I say too much more, please just check out thebikeshed.cc and I hope you like what you see...

Meanwhile, thanks for having me, and I may have some questions about lithium batteries in my next post, as the two cells I have just fitted won't fire up my bike... A*rse!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm on a few forums. You'll mostly find me on the US Ducati Sport Classic forum as LondonDutch, but I hope to make some friends here too.

My Duc is almost done, just rebuilding the back end, hiding the battery under the seat with new rear lighting and plate hanger, then it's new footrests and zorst hangers, and finally the paint - and she'll be done... Next up I'm planning a little Guzzi number...

The Duc build is all documented on the Bike Shed website, as are a few others from UMC, Spirit, and general contributors.

Welcome Dutch, like the Duc lots.

My Uncle (now deceased), a guy called Vic Camp who ran Vic Camps' Motorcycles in Walthamstow and the Vic Camp School of Racing at Brands, and was one of the first people to import Ducatis commercially into the UK. He started with bikes in back in 1956 (the year I was born) and went on to found a successfull business, initially with Ducatis, but later with modified Suzukis designed specifically for club racers.

Dutch,

i had to buy a lithium racing battery to fit under the rear hump on my CB750KZ Build, They are very expensive but glad to report that it has proved to be a quality battery.
And is only a third of the size and weight of the oem battery.

Here's the link, so you can have a browse.

I bought a set of 3 racing batteries from Calum at this website, and they were great guys to deal with, but so far, the recommended set of batteries just won't start my bike, so I am back to the OEM unit. No idea why, as they work in my friend's identical Duc no problem. I'll have to get the batteries tested. Perhaps one of them is faulty?
