CX 500 Cafe Build Empty
PostSubject: CX 500 Cafe Build   CX 500 Cafe Build EmptySun Oct 23, 2011 5:43 pm

Hey all,

I'm in the process of planing a build. I have a 1980 CX 500, and I really love the idea of a cafe racer. I'm planning on using clubman bars and doing some work on the seat. I have two main questions. One, has anyone put Euro style dual rotors on a US CX? The bike is a blast, but it feels like the brakes are made of wood. Second, I want to shorten up the exhaust. I like the idea of taking out the cross over pipe, and putting on some short mufflers under the foot pegs. I know that the more traditional cafe look has the cone toward the back but I think I want the pipes tucked up under the frame. Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

You should have no problem putting twin discs (rotors) on your CX, the only issue you may have is finding a duitable fork leg and caliper assembly in the US. DOn't forget you'll need a suitable wheel and disc as well. Try looking on E-bay internationally and find someone breaking a CX who could maybe ship you the whole front end (expensive I would think!) or take a look in your local yard and see if you can find a bike with twin brakes and the same sized stanchions to fit your yokes (trees)

As for the exhaust, go for it fella, the joy of cafe racers is the individuality, no rules!

Oh, and welcome to the forum Smile
