What paint for my engine?

I want to paint the engine on the GS550. Just to give it a nice clean cast ally look. What would people recommend?

I'm definately using etch primer first.

I've heard Simoniz 5 wheel silver is suprisingly good.

Personally I'd use high temperature paint on the barrells and heads, don't use a normal primer, it will just burn off, just make sure your surfaces are clean and degreased. If you want a shiny finish there are a couple of people on E-bay who sell high temperature clear laquer.

Just be a bit careful with the type of paint you use, as some can act as a thermal barrier and cause over heating problems. I looked into painting my engine and decided to leave it blast finish. WD40 after washing will keep on top of it.

WD40 dissapates water and puts a protective film on the engine and stops the oxidation taking place. I have used this method on all my bikes, from trials to supermoto and road bikes.
