PostSubject: newbie newbie   CX500 - newbie newbie EmptyMon Feb 01, 2010 2:46 pm

Hi all, just joined, im based in cambridgeshire, im 32, been a biker since i was 17, never been without a bike, mostly sports bikes, recently owned a triumph daytona 955i, iv just decided iv had enough of all the plastic faired stuff, and iv purchased a rather strange thing, a honda cx 500 that someone has started to transform into some kind of cafe racer, so i thought id take it on and continue where the last owner left off, would love a brit bike but unfortunately finances just dont allow it present, so its off to work with the cx, has anyone here ever seen a cx 500 cafe racer, iv seen some nice examples on youtube to aim , any suggestions would be most welcome, many thanks.

Hello mate! Sorry no replies from others as yet, this is a very new forum so theres only a few of us who sporadically post. I keep trying tp post up stuff to generate conversation but its generally pretty quiet!

I know of an english guy in California who does Honda 500 cafe's but not sure if they are CX's or CB's? Check him out ( if you haven't already that is) just Google 'Carpy Cafe Racer' should find his site!

hi, i was looking at cx500's at lotherton hall vjmc show last year, i like the shape of the tank they're quite a bulky bike though, should look quite good as a cafe racer, if you can get all the plastic & bulk off it, start with a bum stop seat & clip ons, then you can sort your rearsets & riding position out.

Hi all, I agree, this forum is waaay too quiet. As I've said before, hopefully it's because everyone is busy in their garages/sheds/living rooms building sooper-dooper cafe racers! I've posted piccies of my 'basket case' CB750 before, but a progress report is in order methinks:

As it arrived

Slowly! I've hit a couple of brick walls, one being stripping the tank which is proving a nightmare, I'm having to use a wire brush in a hand drill as I finally sussed it's had 3 coats of paint in it's life, the original, a coat of what I can only assume to be cellulose and a coat of 2-pack which is resisting all attempts at using conventional paint strippers!

The other brick wall is time. I work for a French company looking after our resellers in the UK and Ireland and year end is approaching so the 'big push' is on, means I'm away form home 3-4 nights a week at present.

My god am i getting old? I never thought i'd look at a CX500 and think 'Mmm... nice', and not 'what a shitter, bet that's been despatched to the moon twice'

however they ARE looking nice, mind you i'm on an XBR500?

lets keep this site moving forwards? i'm new to it and can be 'slightly' sarcastic but always with good intentions?

I'm not good with technology, but will try to add pics soon.

stay safe, tight lines!

Ah, a fisherman as well then? Sarcasm isn't a problem, we're bikers, 'ard, thick skinned (even just thick in some cases!) Oh, sorry, was I being sarcastic? Very Happy

Piccies are easy. Go to www.photobucket.com register (takes 2 minutes) set yourself up with an album (it's free) click 'upload pictures' and it will let you browse your pc and select pictures to upload.

Once you've got the pictures uploaded to your album, open another browsing session on your pc, log on to the site you want to put pictures on and start composing your post.

When you want to post a picture go back to your photobucket album and put your pointer over the photo you want to upload. You'll get a text box appear, left click the bottom of the list, IMG Code, and it will say 'Copied', go back to your post, right click and select 'Paste' and it will dump the url link into your post, like this:

CX500 - newbie newbie Honda4

You'll see the link appear, you can then continue writing under the picture and add others as you wish.

Really is as simple as that.
